Description

The mushroom of calm, for busy minds and restless nights. Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) has been revered for over 2,000 years and is known in the Taoist tradition as the mushroom of immortality. Stir it into a warm drink in the evening and let the day settle.

In Chinese medicine, Reishi is the great Shen tonic. It's traditionally used to calm the spirit (Shen), support restful sleep, nourish the Heart and support immune health, and the Taoists linked it with longevity, wisdom and inner peace.

In an age that kneels at the altar of relentless output, competing for your attention from every direction at every waking moment, Reishi slows things down, softens the noise, and allows you to rest, restore and harmonise with what really matters.

Why ours is different

Grown on wood, sourced Di Dao. Our Reishi is grown on wood in its traditional growing region, never on grain.

10:1 dual extract. Extracted twice, in hot water and then in alcohol, to draw out both the water-soluble and alcohol-soluble parts of the mushroom. Ten kilograms of Reishi go into every kilogram of powder.

Nothing added. No fillers, carriers or flavours.

Tested. Manufactured and tested in licensed Australian facilities for heavy metals, pesticides, moulds and microbes.

How to take it

Follow the dose on your label, stirred into warm water or plant milk. Reishi is naturally bitter, so many people take it in warm plant milk with a little honey before bed. A 100g jar holds 166 serves. Always use a dry spoon. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, we recommend working with your practitioner.

Ingredients: Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi mushroom) 10:1 dual extract powder.

FAQs

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), known in China as lingzhi, has been called the mushroom of immortality for over 2,000 years. In Chinese medicine it's the great Shen tonic, traditionally used to calm the spirit, support restful sleep and support healthy immune function. It's associated mainly with the Heart, Liver and Lungs, and is one of the few herbs said to nourish all Three Treasures: Jing, Qi and Shen.
Reishi is rich in beta-glucans and other polysaccharides, which are associated with its traditional use for immune support. It also contains triterpenes, the compounds behind its bitter taste. We use a dual extraction, hot water and ethanol, to draw out both groups. Together they explain why reishi is traditionally used to support healthy immune function, a balanced stress response and restful sleep.
Our Reishi is sourced Dรฌ Dร o (ๅœฐ้“) from the Dabie Mountains in China, the region where it has traditionally grown best. It's grown on oak wood, never on grain, and we use the fruiting body only. It's then dual extracted 10:1, in hot water and then alcohol, so ten kilograms of Reishi go into every kilogram of powder.
Reishi is traditionally used to support healthy immune function, a balanced stress response and deep, restful sleep. In Chinese medicine it's a Shen tonic, calming and settling the spirit, which is why so many people take it as part of an evening wind-down. Like all tonic mushrooms, it works best taken every day over time.
Take 600mg (ยผ teaspoon) once a day, or follow the directions on your label. Stir it into hot water for a simple earthy tea, blend it into a hot chocolate or smoothie, or add it to soups and broths. Many people take it in the evening as part of their wind-down. Consistency matters more than quantity, so make it a daily ritual. Always use a dry spoon.
Most healthy adults can take reishi. Because it's traditionally used to calm the mind and support restful sleep, it's popular with people who feel wired, restless or stressed. Please check with your healthcare provider, naturopath or herbalist first if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, taking prescription medication (especially blood thinners or blood pressure medication) or have a health condition.
Reishi appears in China's oldest herbal text, the Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing, where it was ranked among the highest class of tonic herbs. Known as Lingzhi, the 'mushroom of immortality', it was a symbol of longevity and spiritual cultivation in Taoist tradition and was once reserved for emperors. In Chinese medicine it is traditionally associated with the Heart and Shen (spirit), used to calm the mind and nourish the whole person. Today it remains one of the most respected tonic herbs in the world.

Calm and Collected

"I tried Reishi for a short period a couple of years ago but it wasn't until I took up the practice fully this year that it made the difference. Now I drink it every night and it keeps me so much calmer and more able to manage emotions. I sleep so much better and have much less difficulty falling to sleep when I use it. Reishi has been a total game changer for my sleep routine and consistent use helps to keep me calm and collected. I love it! Oh and I got a SF spoon in a recent order. I never realised more joy could be had stirring my tonics!"

Daily Staple

"I have been taking Reishi daily for almost a year and a half. This is a wonderful mushroom! I have epilepsy, and have never experienced full seizure control using pharmaceutical medication in 20 years. I have also suffered severe side effects which have accumulated over the years. I have now managed to wean myself off all meds, and take Reishi and a combination of other Superfeast products. It has been a lot of trial and error as my system is super sensitive; but Reishi has been one I have handled incredibly well from the start. I take it every day in combination with Shen, and I am so much calmer, I sleep about 8 hours a night uninterrupted. The chronic anxiety I used to battle doesn't exist anymore. Life is much better with this mushroom!"

Q&A

Hi, I used Reishi during my pregnancy, can I continue while breastfeeding? Is it beneficial for bub through breastmilk and in what way? Thank you!
Hey Laura, thanks for your question and this is such a special time for you! Reishi is a deeply nourishing tonic herb that’s traditionally used to support a calm and resilient nervous system, emotional balance, immune health, and overall wellbeing. It can be especially supportive in the postpartum period, helping to steady the nervous system and gently replenish the body during times of change, and it is considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. While there isn’t sufficient data to confirm how specific compounds transfer to a baby via breastmilk, it’s likely that some of the broader immunological benefits of the herbs are shared through maternal consumption. I hope this answers your question! Sending lots of love during this time, SF xx
At what age can kids take reishi?
Hey Amanda, Yes, Reishi can be had by children. Dosage-wise: 1/16-1/8th tsp (a pinch if that's easier) for very small children 1/8-1/2 tsp for children 4 - 12 years. 1/4-1tsp, an adult dose, for children over 12. Enjoy, let us know if you have any other questions, Mark
In terms of measuring teaspoons used for baking/cooking, how much 200mg of reishi powder? Is it a quarter teaspoon?
Hi Em! Sorry for the confusion regarding our dosage. We recommend 1/4 - 1 heaped tsp for all of our herbs, Reishi included. Generally we say start low on 1/4 - 1/2 tsp and build up to a 1 heaped tsp dose :) x Sam
Can you take Lions Mane as well as Reishi
It is completely fine to take Lion's Mane and Reishi and even combine them together into their own blend. The herbs work in synergy with one another and you can take your herbs in any combination or timeframe that suits your daily rhythm and flow. x Sam
Morning, just wanted to ask what is the percentage of polysaccharides in your Reishi powder.
Hey Cam, SuperFeast Reishi usually clocks in with an average around 30-35% beta-glucans, however we do not test this frequently. As we are a small company, we prefer to allocate our resources to testing for heavy metals, pesticides, microbials and aflatoxins, rather than the above mentioned constituents. So at this time I am unable to provide you with any extract numbers. When we first receive a new crop to the processing facility it gets tested regularly to ensure the active ingredient percentages are above the minimums set by the Chinese Pharmacopeia for therapeutic effect. Each batch of our Reishi will vary a little, so we could never claim specific percentages as it differs from batch to batch due to seasonality. The other reason we don't promote our polysaccharide/triterpene levels is because we believe there are MANY reasons these mushrooms work, and we try not to get bogged down by individual compounds. As we know, the immune system is activated by many components in mushrooms. Beta-glucans are just one. Other constituents include but are not limited to alpha-glucans, ergothioneines, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory sterols, lipids, glycosides, and mycoflavonoids—many of which work synergistically to optimise health. The above reasons are why we only state our mushroom extracts as full spectrum concentrated 10:1 extract powders, with no indicates on the assay of polysaccharides or beta-glucans, or tripertenes. I hope this helps, and you understand our stand point. x Sarah
I'm going overseas for two months and am already concerned about not having my seven mushroom hot chocolate every morning. The 100g jars are going to all too much weight to my luggage allowance. Is it possible for you to supply single, 100g packets of Turkey Tail, Lion's Mane, Reishi, Chaga, Cordyceps, Shitake and Mason's Mushrooms?
Hey David, so glad you're loving your Mushroom hot choccy! We have a mushroom blend powder called Mason's Mushrooms which may suit your needs for this trip. It is available in a 250g so wouldn't take up all your precious luggage space. Have the best trip! x Sarah
Do you ever use Japanese Reishi? Having used it for about 7 years I have always found it superior to the Reishi from China.
Hey Cam, Here at SuperFeast we specialise in Daoist Tonic herbs and therefore choose to place our focus on sourcing herbs from various mountain regions in China via a practice known as Di Dao. Our Reishi is sourced from the Dabie Mountains of China. To learn more about our sourcing practices please check out our blog on this subject via the link below: https://www.superfeast.com.au/blogs/superblog/china-di-tao-source-herbs?_pos=1&_sid=7297fc505&_ss=r x SF Team
Can you mix Reishi with a coffee and still have the benefits in the drink?
Hey Anita, Our herbs are fully extracted and can be added to any hot or cold food or beverage of choice - including coffee. This will not affect you receiving the medicinal benefits! Adding tonic herbs and medicinal mushrooms to coffee (and other caffeinated beverages) may help to soften the undesirable side effects caffeine has on the adrenals and nervous system. x SF Team
Taking reishi on blood thinners? Hi SuperFeast Team. I happily use Reishi myself and would like to offer some for my yoga teacher, however she is on blood thinners. I remember a while ago coming across this info on google: Reishi should not be used if you are taking anticoagulants like warfarin or are scheduled to have surgery as it may increase the risk of bleeding. Reishi may also cause your blood pressure to drop and should be avoided if you are taking antihypertensive medications. Any opinions?
It is challenging for us to make herbal recommendations when the individual is taking pharmaceutical medications as there are so many variables and the chance of a possible contraindication. Blood thinners are especially tricky as they operate within a very narrow therapeutic index, with even the smallest dose interference having the potential to create rather undesirable effects. We advise she checks in with her healthcare provider for more support as they will have a deeper understanding of her full health/medical history. x SF Team
Hi there, from a very general perspective, how young could a baby/toddler be to start giving them a small amount of this in a bottle?
Hey Ashely, We generally suggest introducing the herbs from 4 years and starting with 1/8th of a teaspoon- so just a pinch. x SF Team
